On Windows, Steam’s configured save root resolves to %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Dawnwalker/Saved/SaveGames. Exit the game and wait for Steam synchronization, then copy the entire SaveGames folder to a timestamped backup before editing, restoring, or troubleshooting files.
Safe first pass
Do this first
- Quit the game and wait for Steam Cloud synchronization to finish.
- Press Windows + R and open %USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Dawnwalker/Saved/SaveGames.
- Copy the entire SaveGames folder—do not move the original.
- Paste it outside the game directory and add the date and time to the backup name.
- Open the backup and verify files are present before making any change.
Cloud sync is not a manual backup
SteamDB shows cloud configuration, but synchronization can also propagate an unwanted change. A separate offline copy gives you a known checkpoint before resolving a conflict.
- Keep the folder structure intact.
- Do not overwrite a newer local save until you know which copy is correct.
- Take another backup before testing a restore.
Restore cautiously
If a cloud conflict appears, compare timestamps and preserve both sides before choosing. Use Steam Support for account or synchronization failures rather than repeatedly launching the game.
Stop pointNever delete the only copy of a save. This path is verified for Windows/Steam, not consoles.
