Sprint-cancel and slow-diagonal behavior recurs in player reports, but no official universal fix is established. Confirm whether the same controller behaves elsewhere; PC players can test a reversible Steam Input dead-zone change, while console players should not assume that option exists in-game.
Safe first pass
Do this first
- Note whether sprint cancels straight ahead, diagonally, or only with one controller.
- Reconnect the controller and retest with a second controller if you already own one.
- On Steam only, record the current layout before testing calibration or dead-zone settings.
- Revert the Steam Input change if it does not fix the same movement test.
- On console, capture a short reproduction clip and watch official update notes.
What the reports prove
Launch players describe Coen dropping from sprint to walk and diagonal movement feeling slower. That recurrence supports the symptom as a real search problem. It does not prove whether the cause is hardware wear, an input threshold, animation state, or a game bug.
A useful escalation report
Include platform, controller model, wired or wireless state, whether another controller reproduces it, and the exact direction that cancels sprint. On PC, say whether Steam Input is enabled and whether the test was reverted.
Stop pointDo not buy a new controller based on this guide alone; reproduce the issue in another title or controller test first.
